Opo’s Canon is a Black-Owned Production Company that offers Direct Service to businesses, brands and individuals who need Media Production, Program Management and Creative Brand Storytelling.

Mission Statement

We want to bring value back to the communities by investing in our artists.

Opo's Canon was founded By Opoku Boateng, a videographer, visionary and creative from Newark, NJ locally known as "OpotheBoat". OpotheBoat wished to be a part of a group/collective of artists with the aims of said collective to be able to help everyone involved by creating the space for them to be able to comfortably fit creativity into their lifestyle, promote their art and influence their communities with their messages. Heavily inspired by the Era of The Harlem Renaissance, Opo’s Canon sticks strongly to the idea of “The Second Black Renaissance'', keeping the betterment of the black community (along with other POC and marginalized communities) and the impact on American Culture as focal points of the group. With that in mind, OpotheBoat values the ideas of the artists who work beside him. Seeing the impact that different artists of the Harlem Renaissance had on the world, Opo’s Canon prioritizes the production and manifestation of the different visions of the artists involved.

SoundWater Initiative

As a community, we are all aware that the media is run by a select few who intentionally push a destructive and toxic narrative towards our communities. These narratives ultimately harm our communities and make it very difficult for people to recognize what it truly takes to organize as a community and make a positive change for our people. Opo’s Canon plans to organize and orchestrate different media projects and spaces that will benefit our surrounding communities. We are putting time and energy to cultivate our communities ourselves rather than simply waiting for their potential assistance. The SoundWater Initiative is our attempt to be an example of a strong community held together by strong ideals.
Each artist is expected to complete 1 campaign/project per year that aligns with the SoundWater Initiative by highlighting at least 1 pillar while subsequently respecting the other pillars in order to initiate the Birth of a culture of people with these shared ideals:
We all know, whether we like to admit it or not, that this world is composed of 4 variables… Elements if you will. In the Vaguest of terms, we understand them as Air, Earth, Fire and Water. The truth is; together they create the realities in which we share, with the experience varying based on the makeup of your essence.

We are happy to announce that we are finally bringing back our flagship art auction, formally known as “The SoundWater Gala” in partnership with Brother Building a Better Nation .

With the theme being“The Wholistic Era”, our main vision is using art to paint a complete picture of not only our status quo, but of the futures that we choose to live. We look for this event to be truly beneficial to not only the artists and art enthusiasts who attend, but to the greater Newark community.
